W-6740 variety, considered to be Rarity-3.
A gem example of this less common Redbook issue and most unusual as such. In the decade plus of PCGS slabbing colonials, they have conferred the grade of 65 to just 4 of this UNITED STATES type, with but one 66 finer (a coin which sold for $21,850 in Bowers March 2010 auction).
And this one is deserving of the gem grade, with lovely, lustrous chocolate brown color, a flash of red at the date, all but flawless surfaces, incredible detail in the obverse sun face, rays and sundial and perhaps just a touch of striking weakness at the lower obverse away from an even higher grade.
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
