Musante JAB-2. Kenney-1 variety, one of just 12 believed to have been struck in this metal.
With the classic and timeless USA design on the obverse, and the 13 bars on the reverse, though on this type the S passes atop the A (opposite of the Ca. 1785 copper originals), and the reverse lacks the diagnostic die spur protruding from the 2nd bar.
Quite striking in this metal, and highly collectible in its own right, the high-water mark for this issue was the piece sold in Stack’s May 2006 sale of the John Ford Collection, Part XIV, lot #558, which realized $7,475.
This example is objectively finer than that specimen, with very fresh, original, silvery-gray color and lovely bright blue and golden-orange toning.
Ex Mike Ringo; earlier from the collection of Anthony Terranova.
