Ryder 13 variety, the so called ‘Britannia’ type.
An unusual opportunity to say the least.
High grade Vermont coinage is about as rare as anything in the entire American colonial series. And examples with original mint red remaining – like this one – are rarer still.
In the last 30 years, just a small handful of superb Vermont pieces of any type have appeared on the market, and then only when great old-time collections have been sold – including Ford, Taylor, Garrett, etc. Apparently, those who have them, keep them. And those who want them, can’t get them.
Also of note, PCGS has graded a grand total of two Vermont Bust coins as uncirculated to date, including this one.
The obverse is crisp, with exceptional detail, original mint frost and traces of mint red, as noted, atop the legends.
The reverse of this type was struck from a horribly worn die and appears almost smooth on some examples, but here exhibits about as much detail as is ever seen on this issue.
Some planchet chips along the reverse rim and roughness here and there are as made and are not atypical for these crude coppers.
In all, this is what mint state Vermont coinage looks like. If you are used to collecting proof Lincoln Cents, you may not like it. If you have collected Vermont coins for any period of time, you will certainly appreciate just how special this is.
And if you were given an unlimited budget of time and money, you might not find another.
