Maris 56-n, W-5310 variety, Camel Head type. Considered to be Rarity-1.
Remarkably, a second Taylor-pedigreed example of this variety on our list, this a lovely, boldly struck, golden brown Choice XF example traced to lot #2245 of that sale where it was described as follows:
“Struck over a 1787 Connecticut copper with liberal portions of the undertype still visible, including the full date 1787 on the reverse of the New Jersey copper to the lower right of the shield. A spectacular overstrike.
From the Homer Downing Collection; earlier in Henry Chapman’s Sale of September 1931, Lot 1001.”
In all, another very desirable example of an ever-popular issue.
