Ryder-8, W-2030 variety, VERMONTENSIUM type, considered to be Rarity-4.
Toughest of the three VERMONTENSIUM types, this example can be traced to Bowers’ March 1987 sale of the august collection of Frederick B. Taylor, lot #2062, where it was described (slightly repetitiously, and with some staccato sentence breaks) as follows:
A Condition Census coin in the Condition Census range of 60-30. Struck on a remarkably fine planchet with no defects. Glossy brown surfaces. A prize item for the specialist. This type usually is found defective planchets. The piece offered here is a remarkable exception.
We see this as a very nice, original, unflawed example of Ryder-8 with lovely color, some not too distracting rim bruises and a coin that would be very difficult and expensive to improve upon.
