Miller 3.D-1 variety, considered to be approximately Rarity-5. Described in the Redbook as the Large Head Right, though we are partial to the Scholar Head nickname given this issue by cataloger Michael Hodder.

We should also point out that this coin isn’t technically a piece sold by us, rather it was purchased by our own JA for his own collection. On that basis, it doesn’t really belong in the archives, but that’s one of the perks that comes along with being the guy who writes these descriptions.

A neat piece, not particularly high grade, but pleasing for the issue with hard surfaces and attractive golden tan color.

Notably, this is the actual coin used to illustrate the reverse of this type in Sylvester Crosby’s Early Coins of America, though this was not noted by the aforementioned Stack’s cataloger in the 2005 Ford sale.

Ex-Stack’s May, 2005 sale of the John Ford Collection, Part IX, as noted, Lot #147.
