Betts-270, Adams-PB 2-D variety.
One of a series of interesting medals celebrating the 18th century exploits of Admiral Edward Vernon.
With this piece commemorating his victory over the heavily fortified Spanish defenses at Portobello (in what is now Panama) which Vernon had famously stated that he could take with “6 ships only“. And he did.
With cool crowned arms on the obverse between a great googly-eyed lion and less confident unicorn, and the aforementioned 6 ships on the reverse.
And this is an unusually pleasing Choice AU example with much of the original golden color remaining.
