Friedus 3.2-D, W-8265 variety, solidly Rarity-7 with just 8 examples known.
Of which this is the finest of the 8, with just a couple of low VFs next in line, and some impaired and/or extremely low grade pieces at the bottom of the census.
But, as is typical of any Higley date or type, this one is not perfect, having been struck on a tapered planchet and thus very weak on the far right obverse and corresponding portion of the reverse, with the original planchet texture visible in these areas.
The balance of the coin is as perfectly made and choice as any Higley we’ve ever seen, with lovely, hard, smooth surfaces, perfect, original chocolate brown color and crisp detail revealing (most of) this charming design in bold relief.
This example is also double struck with two subtle deer profiles and a less subtle double axe on the reverse.
In all, while you may wish for a perfectly made specimen, you simply cannot do any better for this issue.
