This part of a coin listing on our site would normally include an attribution number, a description of the type, or variety, and possibly the minting location. All of which are missing in this case because, despite our best efforts, we’ve not been able to figure out what this is, who made it, or where.
Here’s what we do know:
-
It’s a copper piece about the size of a Large Cent, but thinner.
-
It bears a proud Unicorn on the obverse, and a cool crest on the reverse with two CRO-style lions surrounding what appears to be a large cactus (an opuntia, to be specific), above the 1664 date.
-
It has much crust in the devices testifying to its total originality.
-
It has superb golden brown color.
-
It looks quite old.
Beyond that, we do not have a clue. This might be rare. Heck, it might be unique. Or it could be charming, but common – though if it is, any other examples known are apparently well hidden from the internet.
