Warwickshire-Coventry, D&H-231 variety.
Always a popular issue with the risqué depiction of Lady Godiva on the obverse surrounded by the legend PRO BONO PUBLICO (For the Public Good).
The reverse legend COVENTRY HALFPENNY surrounds an elephant with a castle on its back, as seen on the coat of arms of the City of Coventry, home of Lady Godiva.
The piece itself is superb, lustrous gem, unusually well struck for the issue, with much 225 year-old mint red remaining on the obverse and reverse.
