Nelson 7 variety, struck in silver.
One of just a few dozen known in this metal and always in very great demand as such.
The ultimate interpretation of the Hibernia design, struck in gleaming silver, in what has historically been called (and certainly seems to us to be) proof format – though this type is always graded as MS by PCGS as it is here. Oh well.
This example is perhaps typical of most survivors, with a couple of hairlines here and there including a heavy line protuding from the King’s chin, and a small dark spot in the left reverse field.
What is not typical is the lovely orange, golden and teal toning on the obverse and reverse of this specimen.
A striking piece which we are pleased to offer at a relatively affordable price for this issue, and a type which simply must be included in any serious colonial collection.
Ex Stack’s sale of the Gilbert Steinberg collection, October, 1989, lot #41.
