Noe-36, W-640, Without Pellets type. Considered to be Rarity-4.
All original, with nearly ideal color, good detail and a relatively even, well-centered strike for a denomination that sometimes comes waaaay off-center and/or with profound weakness.
Just some natural waviness of the planchet bears mention, but overall this is a strong example that is better in our view than the PCGS grade suggests.
Indeed, in the 1991 Hessberg sale, this specimen was described as ". . . a pleasingly sharp impression. Extremely Fine.", and, generally speaking, colonial grading has not exactly gotten more conservative in the last 20+ years.
Ex Stack’s June 1991 sale featuring the Eward Hessberg Collection of Colonial and Early State Coinage, as noted, lot #1257.
