Back to Road Report
November 24, 2024: The Devens Coin Show
Let the record show that on a sunny fall morning Team CRO headed out to Devens for the penultimate show here this year which we will now summarize through this series of highlights:
- We sold a fantastic gold coin.
- Another dealer informed me here that he saw a cool coin at the recent NH show, thought about it, decided to buy it, but when he went back to get it it was gone, which he subsequently learned was because I had swooped in like a pelican and snagged it seconds earlier. This is what coin dealers refer to as a “you snooze, you lose” situation.
- Got some excellent consignments of US Copper and Silver from several different regular customers.
- We unfortunately got to witness another dealer-on-dealer argument, which did NOT involve the same guy described in our recent NH RR. Some kind of bullion deal gone sideways, I guess.
- Found one colonial on the floor here that met the stringent CRO standards.
- Saw a lot of our regular customers here, but one I expected to see told me he was planning to come to this show next week which I would not recommend since there isn’t one scheduled. For the avoidance of future confusion, I recommended that he always check here for the latest information.
- Bought a totally crazy nickel on the floor.
- Met a gentleman at the show who spent a while studying an early quarter in our case. When I asked if he was trying to attribute it he said yes, so I told him what it was and then learned he has a vast collection of early quarters and halves by die variety, with his extensive inventory pages showing very few missing pieces. That was impressive, and something we do not expect to see a local show like this.
- I looked at a bunch of Mercury Dimes in a dealer’s case that he thought showed good upgrade potential, but I really did not think so. Even if I did I probably wouldn’t have bought them anyway, since that’s not really my thing and they did not have our look.
- Did buy a wicked H10c which is going to photograph like a son of a gun.
All contributing to an action packed, entertaining, pretty busy and quite successful day here in Devens, as it usually is.
